Abstract

The United Kingdom is made up of three jurisdictions and each has a very different public prosecution service. This chapter covers the public prosecution service in England & Wales: a brief description of the Scottish system is at Appendix: the Northern Ireland system is not covered here1. The England and Wales public prosecution service is called the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and is very different from the two other UK services and from prosecution services in Europe.
