Abstract

Objective To determine the mechanism whereby the prorenin activates (pro)renin receptor [(P)RR] on mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and human renal mesangial cells (HRMCs). To test whether the “handle-region” peptide (HRP) consisting of 10 amino acids from the prorenin prosegment acts as a blocker of (P)RR. Design and method Immunocytochemistry staining was used to evaluate the presence of (P)RR in HUVECs. The cells were treated with recombinant human prorenin after the blockage of AT1 and AT2 by olmesartan and PD123319.
