Abstract

A House of Lords Select Committee is considering a private members' Bill introduced by Lord Joffe. If passed the Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill will ‘enable a competent adult who is suffering unbearably as a result of a terminal illness to receive medical assistance to die at his own considered and persistent request’. The National Group of Nurse Consultants in Palliative Care has considered the matter at length and is unanimous in rejecting the benefits that are claimed for assisted dying.
