Abstract

The use of thicker cord giving fewer layers in the cord body without reducing the strength mar~in is a problem on the solution of which the Soviet and non-Soviet tire industries alike have been working constantly and successfully. The approach to the problem has been facilitated by the improvement in the physico-mechanical properties of viscose rayon cord. A reduction in the number of layers in the tire means a significant increase in labor productivity in the manufacturing and assembly operations and a lower tire weight in addition to which it means a less thick cord body, less heat production in the running tire and hence longer tire life /I-3/.
