Abstract
This paper discusses the receptive fields of the neurons of the lateral geniculate body. It is shown that the receptive fields of the subcortical structure of the visual system have a more complex spatial organization than was customarily assumed earlier—they have an elliptical shape, asymmetry of the central zone of the field, and can have discrete fragmentary excitation and inhibition sections. These properties of the receptive fields provide additional processing of visual information, along with a relay function of signal transmission from the retina to the primary visual cortex.
