Abstract

This paper discusses the process of healing internalized shame and considers some of the practical aspects of clinical work with shame based clients. Special attention is given to discussing alcoholic and adult children of alcoholics. This paper will focus on working with a client via individual therapy; however, the stages presented can be applied to a client in group and family therapy or an individual's growth within a self-help group.
