Abstract

The extinction coefficient determined by light scattering on liquation particles in a glass has been calculated, taking into account interparticle interference. The calculations use several types of pairwise particle-correlation functions. It is shown, in particular, that using Debye and Percus-Yevick pairwise correlation functions does not result in anomalous behavior of the extinction coefficient. When a pairwise correlation function obtained earlier for sodium-borosilicate glass and based on experimental data was used in the calculations, the wavelength dependence of the calculated extinction coefficient had the form λ 0-p where p=5.5-6.0: i.e., it showed anomalous behavior. Questions are raised whose answer would make it possible to explain why the p values obtained in the calculation do not reach the upper limit pmax=8 experimentally recorded for this type of scattering.
