Abstract
History of study, ecology, taphonomy and variability of trace fossils classified as Paleodictyon Menengini are considered. The present study allows drawing a conclusion that Paleodictyon is not a trace fossil or a remain of some other organism. However it is absolutely identical with the so-called natural Rayleigh-Benard convection cells.
