Retirement, the end of active work and availability of a large amount of free time, for many elderly people are factors leading to significant changes in life. The aim of the work is to study the problem of loneliness of elderly people. The questionnaire survey method and in-depth interview method were used to achieve the above-mentioned goal and to solve the set tasks. Social care and social rehabilitation systems are of great importance in solving the problem of loneliness of pensioners, with an important role in this process being played by highly qualified professionals who have the task of improving social care, allowing elderly people to maintain their independence and relative self-sufficiency. An individualized approach to personality is relevant at any age stage of the person, but it becomes a priority at an older age. The findings can be used to form a set of actions, technological approaches aimed at eliminating the feeling of loneliness in the elderly and its consequences. These results can be used in the organization of social work with the elderly in social service institutions. Competently organized social work with the elderly should contribute to changing the situation and not the personality of the elderly person.
