Abstract

The problem of loess formation and the loess molluscs

Highlights

  • In recent years, little attention has been paid to the problem of loess formation in Central Europe, as stratigraphic questions came to the fore for most researchers

  • In the loess regions of Eastern Europe and Asia, on the other hand, the problem of loess formation has always remained an open question, as can be seen from numerous studies, especially from the USSR (e.g., Kriger, 1962; Gerasimov, 1964); the same applies to North America

  • It is obvious that sooner or later this problem will have to be discussed for Central Europe, if only for the reason that a position should be taken on the arguments expressed about a supposed non-aeolian origin of loess
