Abstract

In the article, we considered the issue of life and its meaning in the history of Western philosophy, i.e. within the framework of the philosophical teachings of the Antique period, European Christianity, the Renaissance, Modern times and beyond. Thoughts on life and its meaning vary with the times and paradigms of each era. In particular, given the individualistic nature of the Western mentality, these differences become more apparent. Despite some differences between these views, there is much in common that unites them. In the article, we tried to identify these differences and similarities through comparative analysis.
