Abstract

This is a case study of an elementary school principal. Its purpose is to explore the principal's leadership style. The research was conducted over a period of 4 months through observation and interviews with the principal, teachers, and students. Six themes emerged: a problem-oriented focus, administrative abilities, a commitment to creating a good school, and relationships with, respectively, staff students, and external individuals and organizations. To understand this principalship requires considering each theme individually and in combination. Perceptions of the principal within the system vary depending on which theme the perceiver is attuned to.
