Abstract

From Jan. 1964 to Jan. 1966, 495 patients with newly discovered or untreated active pulmonary tuberculosis were collected in the district of Chonnam, Korea. The prevalence of primary antituberculous drug-resis-tance strains of mycobacterium tuberculosis, and the course after primary antituberculous drug therapy to primary drug resistance strains were observed. The results were 1) The prevalence of primary antituberculos drug resis-tance to INH,PAS,SM, and to the these 3 drugs were 19.4%, 11.1%, 11.5% and 27.7% respectively. 2) The treatment with combination of PAS and INH on the patient who had partial resistance to the INH or PAS showed improvement in 57.9%, no change in 31.6% and worse in 10.5%. 3)The INH or PAS combination therapy on the patient who were resistant to the both drugs in vitro, showed improvement in 46.7%, no change in 33.3%, and worse in 20.0% 4) The INH, PAS combination therapy on the patient who did not have primary resistance to the neither of these drugs showed improvement in 76.7%, no change in 18.6%, and worse in 4.7&.(The results of the treatment were based on X-ray studies)
