Abstract

The Papanicolaou smear history of 6,752 ever-married women under 45 years old residing in the United States, was obtained by the 1970 National Fertility Study, conducted by the Office of Population Research at Princeton University. An epidemiologic analysis of these data is presented, and women who had never had a Papanicolaou smear, those who had had a smear more than 12 months before interview, and those who had had a smear during the previous 12 months are deseribed.
