Abstract
In a positive column in argon in a tube with radius much greater than the molecular free path, the pressure at the anode is greater than that at the cathode. The resulting axial gas and peripheral counterstreaming velocities, for which direct measurements are not available, have been calculated. The former varies in a typical case as (E/p)0.53. The velocities are smaller than those of ion drift and moving striations.
