Abstract
The facilities of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements for the preparation of biological and environmental reference materials are discussed under the aspect of satisfying important parameters for the preparation of candidate reference materials. The choice of transformation methods and their possible influences on quality and long-term conservation, the need for automation as well as the importance of quality control are particularly emphasized.
