Abstract

In the preparation of poultry judging teams, many different methods of training have been advanced. At Purdue University the coaching is done the year following the regular prescribed judging course. The men who make the team are as a rule, seniors registered in the regular four year agricultural course.The following procedure has been practiced at Purdue with great satisfaction: During the latter part of September, from 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon to 5:00 or 6:00 each school day, training begins. The first few periods are allotted to the technical phases of exhibition judging, such as disqualifications, cuts for defects, shape and color requirements for the different breeds. Following this a few periods are devoted to the exhibition scoring of birds. During this preliminary work the student takes all the time he desires to study the specimens.
