Abstract

Reaction of [Et 4N] 2[Fe 2(CO) 8] with μ 4-Ge[Co 2(CO) 7] 2 gives the mixed-metal cluster compound Et 4N[Ge 2Co 5Fe 2(CO) 22], the anion of which has -GeCo 3(CO) 9 and -GeCoFe 2(CO) 10 sub-units coordinated trans about a planar Co(CO) 3 group via the germanium atoms. Et 4N[GeCoFe 3(CO) 14] was isolated from the reaction of [Me 2GeFe(CO) 4] 2 and Et 4 N[Co(CO) 4]; this anion also contains a -GeCoFe 2(CO) 10 tetrahedral core, with the germanium atom further bonded to an Fe(CO) 4 group.
