Abstract

AbstractThe general industrial chemical methods of preparation of primary, secondary, and tertiary amines and quaternary ammonium compounds are discussed. The physical properties and uses of the amines and quaternary ammonium compounds are described. Particular attention is paid to corrosion inhibition of steel, to ore flotation of taconite ores, to solvent extraction of uranium ores, and to the use of cationic surfactants as emulsifiers for asphalt and as fabric softeners and antistatic agents. The relationship of chemical structure to performance in the above applications is covered.
