Abstract

Sharia-compliant distribution, also known as halal logistics, is one of the main drivers behind the rapid growth of the global halal industry. Brunei Darussalam, a notable country in the halal economy, is devising strategies to capitalise on the halal industry growth and is committed to establish its very own halal logistics environment. However, given halal logistics in Brunei is still at an early stage, research concerning halal logistics is limited and seldom discoursed. Hence, this chapter aims to present and confer the development of halal logistics in Brunei Darussalam. The chapter also explains the country’s halal industry background, unveils several public and private halal logistics initiatives, and elaborates on the enactment of the laws and standards concerning halal logistics. Furthermore, moving forward, the chapter deliberates on the future trends and challenges of halal logistics in Brunei. Lastly, the chapter concludes with several limitations and highlights for future research. Understanding the development and future directions of halal logistics in Brunei could provide insights into local, regional or global stakeholders, attract more interests, fortify halal commitments, and enrich the halal and logistics body of knowledge.
