Abstract

We summarize a number of reasons for believing that pregalactic sources of energy, such as quasars or protogalaxies, may have significantly influenced the development of the large scale galaxy distribution. A brief review is presented of specific mechanisms by which this may have occurred and their observational consequences. It is possible that the large scale structure may be primarily due to such activity, rather than the direct effects of primordial adiabatic or isothermal fluctuations.
