Abstract

Technogenic sources of atmospheric air pollution with carbon monoxide (II) and hydrocarbons are thermal power plants, internal combustion engines, chemical, petrochemical and metallurgical industries. The chemical and biological properties of carbon monoxide (II) and hydrocarbons, as well as their significant volumes in gas emissions, cause an increased environmental hazard in the area of the objects where they are formed. The concentration of carbon monoxide (II) and hydrocarbons in the emissions of many of these sources does not meet the established standards for gas emissions and serves as a factor in the intensive deterioration of the ecological state of the urban atmosphere. Air polluted by carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons causes significant damage to fauna and flora. The presence of these substances in atmospheric air also harms human health, namely it causes a disease of the circulatory system, respiratory and nervous systems and is especially dangerous for the population of children.Electrode manufacturing enterprises are technogenic sources of atmospheric air pollution with carbon monoxide (II) and hydrocarbons. In this work, we simulated the dispersion of these emissions in air, established the levels of averaged concentrations of priority pollutants in the surface layer of the atmosphere, and substantiated the need to develop technical solutions to improve the environmental safety of emissions in the zone of influence of electrode manufacturing enterprises.It was found that surface concentrations at the border of residential buildings on carbon monoxide, naphthalene and phenol exceed sanitary standards taking into account background pollution and amount to 1,052 MPC, 1,095 MPC and 1,140 MPC, respectively, which necessitates environmental protection measures to minimize these emissions.
