Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present some aspects of the precarious balance between Dutch general and vocational training. The author starts with a brief outline of the relevant characteristics of the Dutch educational ssytem, as regards the link between general and vocational education. The next two sections present trends in the occupancy of vocational and general education and some information on the individual benefits of general and vocational education. The last section examines the balance between general and vocational education in the Netherlands.
