Abstract

Abstract The Prague Spring of 1968 and the events immediately following it represent a significant historical moment in Czechoslovak history. The unprecedented activation of society through protest and media, the search for its own path of development and its violent interruption, still resonate in society today. The following essay narrates major occurrences of the ‘Prague Spring,’ starting with its prologue, moving to the unfolding of 1968 events, and closing with an epilogue. It focuses on the activation of society in its criticism of the old order, support for change, rejection of the violent interruption and the onset of normalization in a changed political scene.
