Abstract
At the most recent annual meeting of this Journal’s editors, we considered the perennial question, ‘‘Why do we see so few papers submitted for publication to the Journal of Environmental Engineering by practicing professionals’’? While we debated the question for a bit, at the end of our discourse we were no closer to a clear answer than the last time the question was debated, or the time before that, or the time before that, ... . Since you are reading this editorial, I assume that the title of the editorial has peeked some interest on your part or that you have some thoughts on the matter. You may even believe that you have the answer. But bear with me for a bit, and after you complete your reading of this piece, let me have your thoughts.
