Abstract
This book is timely and significant. It is a mine of information, experience, theory, and practice which can be worked with profit by the mental health practitioner and general physician alike. While there is some unavoidable variation in clarity and profundity between the chapters, the 55 authors are experienced and articulate community mental health practitioners. Dr. Grunebaum, the editor, declared that, each author was asked to explain to another clinician what he wished he had been told when he first undertook work in a community health setting, to emphasize information that would be useful and practical, to tell what he had learned along the way, rather than to describe only the goals and theory of this work. The contributors have generally followed this admonition quite successfully. The book is divided into four sections.
