Abstract

SUMMARY Despite what some wish to believe, domestic violence exists in the Jewish Community. Rabbis are in a unique position to educate the lay population and to create communities of support and comfort. Rabbis can share concepts, values, and texts from the Jewish tradition that highlight the sanctity of the individual; they can ensure a Jewish presence in interfaith settings that address the issue of domestic violence; they can speak out to colleagues and community members; they can advocate for and create communities of honesty and trust. When rabbis embrace these opportunities to provide education and awareness, they help bring God's presence to those in need of healing.
