Abstract
This narrative reflects a practitioner's formative experience as a VISTA volunteer, forming and working with a group of Mexican American adolescents before receiving any formal education in social work or human services. The author offers seven principles that highlighted the lessons he learned while working with the group and its extended community. The principles provide readers, academics, and practitioners with a foundation and framework for effective strengths-based group work practice with children and youth.
