Evil has transcendental power; when we face its magnitude and power honestly and perceptively, it threatens to undo us, to expose our limits and our ultimate impotence, and to drive us to despair. It confronts us, in other words, with a genuine theological problem of divine and human power. Is there any power capable of saving us and our world?
