Abstract
As a leader, are you limiting yourself and your organization through “and/or” thinking? Howitt thinks you probably are. What's more, this type of mind‐set separates running a financially successful organization from one that delivers value beyond the bottom line to a wide variety of stakeholders. It does not have to be this way, and indeed leaders can create a different future by being “modern‐day heroes who choose to live lives of passion and precision, artistry and analytics, intuition and intelligence.” Similarly, be careful about the term work‐life balance, which he contends is also self‐limiting, implying a false separation between life and work.
