Abstract

The most prominent pathological changes in patients with low back pain include Modic changes and degeneration of intervertebral discs. Presence of Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) and formation of biofilms have been linked to endplate changes and disc degeneration [ 1 Dudli S Liebenberg E Magnitsky S Miller S Demir-Deviren S Lotz JC. The aim of the current pilot was to test a minimally invasive model of disc degeneration and a potential of anti-bacterial biologic to reverse disc degeneration caused by C. acnes.
