Abstract

Retrospective study from two medical centers in Spain between 2007 and 2014. Perigraft seroma occurred in 30% (23/76) of patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms treated by Dacron grafts (42) or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) grafts (36). The mean time to detection of perigraft seroma was about 2 years (range, 4-106 months). Of the 23 grafts with perigraft seroma, 3 required surgical repair: 2 had abdominal pain and 1 had a thrombosed limb. Two were treated by endovascular grafts and one by excision of the PTFE graft with Dacron reconstruction. PTFE graft and malnutrition were the strongest factors for perigraft seroma based on multivariate analysis. Perigraft seroma is not an unusual complication after open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, especially for PTFE grafts. Closer follow-up is warranted when this graft is used.
