Abstract

This study aimed to determine the output value of Indonesian Simmental cattle in Nagari Balai Panjang, Lareh Sago Halaban District, Limapuluh District. This study used 220 farmers as respondents, who owned 379 Indonesian Simmental cattle. This study used a survey method with a snowball sampling technique. The variables observed in this study included the number of adult, young, and calf Indonesian Simmental cattle, the number of births and deaths of Indonesian Simmental cattle within the last year, and the identity of the breeder. The data was taken with the help of a questionnaire. Then the data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the value of Indonesian Simmental cattle’s natural increase (NI) was 32.19%. The net replacement rate (NRR) of female Indonesian Simmental cattle is 332.52%. The estimated output value of Indonesian Simmental cattle is 32.19% or 122 heads, with details of rejected males at 0%, rejected females at 6.95%, the remaining male replacements at 9.08%, and the remaining female replacements at 16.16%. The output value in Nagari Balai Panjang was the same as the NI value, which means there was a population balance. Nagari Balai Panjang could potentially become a source area for Indonesian Simmental cattle.
