Abstract

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of poverty-related diseases that particularly affect vulnerable communities in resource poor settings. Even though NTDs affect over 1·7 billion people globally, they have long been ignored in global and national health agendas and in budget allocations. To rectify such neglect, a global response was mounted in the early 2000s with the launch of the first WHO NTD road map and the London Declaration on NTDs whereby partners pledged strong support for its delivery.
