Abstract

Against a background of recent international commitments, a basis for enhancing biodiversity in British spruce Picea spp. forests is developed. This is based on mimicking the natural components and ecological processes which occur in native forests. The principles of landscape ecology can guide the conversion of plantations into diverse forest ecosystems.
