Abstract

Political succession through free and fair election is a serious malady. Electoral disputes in most cases always degenerate to excuses for intervening and overthrowing of government. This article examines the problem associated with electoral disputes and the consequent actions after elections. The process of settling the dispute was critically diagnosed. The article discovered that resolving electoral disputes through court have severally created many problems to the successful transition which at times seriously endanger the political growth and development. The article highlighted that arbitration has never been in contention for resolving electoral disputes. The article recommended the usage of arbitration for the settlement of electoral disputes to pave way for cordiality among the political class. The electoral Act of 2010 should be amended to incorporate template of arbitration for dispute mechanism.
