Abstract

In a resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers on the "Development of Housing in the USSR," passed on July 31, 1957, the task was set of ending in the next 10 to 12 years the shortage of workers' housing. In the Sixth Five-Year Plan there is a provision for increasing the volume of housing more than twice compared with the Fifth Five-Year Plan. It is planned through state housing alone to build a total of 215 million square meters of floor-space. In 1956-1960 the state capital investment in housing will increase, compared with the Fifth Five-Year Plan, by 78 billion rubles. In the following years the volume of capital investment for these purposes will increase even more. Along with the construction of dwellings by the state the construction of houses by workers and employees of industrial enterprises and organizations, as well as the individual construction of living quarters in towns, urban settlements, state farms, the timber industry, RTS and collective farms will develop on a large scale.
