Abstract

This paper addresses the question of the applicability of Western family therapy theories and techniques in different cultural and social-economic contests. The impact of ethnic and class factors on the family system, and its implications for practice are discussed. The conclusion drawn is that Western family therapy literature is insufficient to guide applications in other countries with different social, economic and political systems and that therapists should translate concepts and principles before using them.
