Abstract

The unusual pore pressure field measured in the subsoil of a small area of the southern Appennines, in Italy, is discussed. The results of the measurements have been justified in the light of the recent geomorphological evolution of the area, subject to a rapid erosion, taking into account the very low permeability of the involved soils. Key words: clay shale, swelling, erosion, pore pressure, case history.
