Abstract

Objective: The etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is poorly understood and attention has turned away from the ovary as the root of the problem, to underlying systemic metabolic abnormalities. However the ovary in women with polycystic ovary syndrome or the polycystic ovary itself has been reported in a number of studies to predict reproductive or metabolic abnormalities. Despite these reports to the contrary, we hypothesized that the volume and morphology of the ovary would not reflect either insulin sensitivity, hyperandrogenism, or gonadotropin abnormalities.
