Abstract

This paper explores the psycho-historical and bio-political search for the cultural identity of Krishan Chander Azad, Mulk Raj Anand's persona invested in The Bubble. Krishan, presently enrolled as a doctoral student at the University of London, confronts his egos, his multiple identities, while searching for his true self. Krishan falls in love with Irene, a young Irish student, who directs Krishan-Anand's life and encourages him to become a writer. In pursuing Krishan's search for self, Anand takes him through ten novellas, exposing him to western culture and philosophy. Finally, Krishan becomes a writer, a Gandhian and a humanist.
