Abstract

Abstract This paper describes the dramatically altered form proposed for initial teacher education in England and Wales. It continues by identifying the ways in which professional educators have recently been faced with a torrent of unjustified abuse and increased control from the centre and concludes by responding publicly to the Secretary of State for Education's Consultation Document. This response, based on a JET survey of all teacher education institutions in Great Britain, makes available a wealth of informed analysis of the government's proposals for the radical redefinition of initial teacher education.
