The polarized i.r. spectrum of biphenyl and biphenyl- d10

Abstract

The i.r. spectra of biphenyl and biphenyl- d 10 in the range 80 to 3500 cm −1 have been measured polarized along three mutually perpendicular directions in the crystal; the c polarized spectra are reported here for the first time. With the new information available a re-evaluation of the assignments of the ungerade molecular fundamentals is made. Although some changes in the earlier assignments are required, the list of fundamentals found by experiment remains incomplete.
