Abstract

The electrical properties of the body (skin, muscles and nerves) have been the subject of investigation of many hysiologists. duBois-Reymond (1) some 80 years ago dealt extensively with electrophysiology in man and in the experimental animal. It was Fere (2) who pointed out that the emotions will cause a variation in the electrical state of the skin. This he determined by noting galvanometric deflections when a weak electric current was passing through the body while psychic stimuli were applied. arehanoff (3) used no external current but attached two non-polarizable electrodes to different parts of the body. The person was subjected to psychicstimuli; by means of a galvanometer connected with the electrodes he showed deflections, especially when one electrode was placed on the palmof the hand, sole of the foot or axilla. Tarchanoff concluded that “galvanic phenomena observed in the skin, which are concomitant Avith different kinds of activity, should be considered as due to an active state of Sweat gland...
