Bright stars viewed with the naked eye and photographs of bright lights against a dard background exhibit radial lines. Similar lines appear when stars are photographed with reflecting telescopes In the case of the eye the lines are mainly due to imperfections in the ocular media. This article originated from a reader's enquiry.
