Abstract

This paper argues that there is a need for a pragmatic tool to support educators in the process of course development. A recent method, Procedure for Learning Systems Design [1], is proposed and described. The method offers a structured approach towards the development of new courses, refinement of existing courses and the generation of course documentation. It has at its core the major processes found in interactive systems design, and these are re-expressed within the educational domain. Issues arising from early application of the method are discussed and future directions described. Early conclusions suggest that the method is both attractive and viable for use by educational practitioners and that its application ensures a full and well-structured course.
