The plasticization, by a Jatropha oil alkyd, of a nitrocellulose coating material based on Musangacecropioides Wood and Orange Mesocarp

Abstract

Cellulose extracted from musangacecropioides wood and orange mesocarp were esterified and the products used in the formulation of clear nitrocellulose coatings. A jatropha oil coatings alkyd resin was used as a plasticizer, which exhibited excellent coating characteristics. The formulations gave hard, glossy films with excellent flexibility, very also good water, acid, alkali and good solvent resistance. The clear coatings have good potential for industrial exploitation.
