Abstract

Abstract Thrombosis and bleeding are more frequently observed in patients with primary thrombocytosis (PT) than patients with secondary thrombocytosis (ST). In this study, the antigen and activity levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), which is a inhibitor of fibrinolysis, and the levels of thromboxane A 2 (TxA 2 ) and prostagladin-I 2 (PGI 2 ), which are the products of endoperoxidase and have contrary effects on platelet aggregation, were studied in the patients with PT and ST. The study groups consisted of 16 patients with PT, 16 patients with ST and 15 healthy subjects as control group (CG). ELISA method were used to assay. There was no difference in the platelet counts between PT and ST (p > 0.05). The antigen and activity levels of the patients with PT were significantly higher than the levels of ST and CG (p 2 levels in RT group were found lower than in PT and CG (p 2 levels than CG's and there were also significantly difference in PGI 2 levels of PT and ST (p
