Abstract

In humans, taurine biosynthesis in liver is considered to be negligible. Therefore taurine could be conditionally essential for human infants and children (6). However, only a few studies have reported taurine values in healthy children as a function of age or in children suffering from diseases that might influence sulfur metabolism.
