Abstract
Venus has long been referred to as Earth's sister planet. Shrouded in clouds, mystery, and myth,Venus has defied exploration up until the latter half of the 20th century when the planet was assaulted by an armada of spacecraft sent by the inhabitants of Earth. The Planet Venus by Mikhail Ya. Marov and David Grinspoon, both of whom are well known in the planetary community, is a chronological, technical account about mankind's exploration of Venus. It reviews various ideas and theories that have been developed about Venus, from the time of the earliest telescopic observations to the age of interplanetary missions.
